2010 Update

Welcome to a new year – we hope it is scent-sational! Already, Making Scents is improving and revamping this year. Three new scents were created for the Christmas/Winter season: Sleigh Ride, Three Wise Men, and Northern Star. They do not appear on the online store page, but once the season comes around again you will be sure to see those scents available for purchase.

Our main website has finally undergone the change I have spoken about for many months now. No longer will the “coming soon” message be displayed – we now have an official front page look! Of course, not all of the site content is available but the meat-and-potatoes are there. Links to our online store, this news/blog page, contact information, pictures about the new Christmas/Winter scents, and a brief description of what the Making Scents company is all about. Oh – and a fully functional contact form in case any of those passing by do not have access to an email and need to send us a message.

I’ll keep everyone updated on, well, all of our updates. I hope you enjoy the new look!

Brief Hold

Tina, Making Scents Owner and Soap Maker, has just purchased a house with her husband and is in the process of moving and finalizing everything. As I am both Head of the Design Team and her daughter, I have been busy packing for the move. The online store and site design has been placed on a brief hold until the family gets settled in to the new house. The store page is ready, though all products have not been added, and I will be finishing that in the next week or so. Until then, the shop is NOT officially open for business, and all items are listed as out of stock – but why don’t you take a look at stage one? http://makingscentsations.com/shopping . 09/03/09 Update – no internet installed at the house, which means I am unable to start editing the website again. This pushes my plans back another week. However, I’m sure this isn’t at all a big issue as Making Scents has yet to have its first anniversary of existance – we still have plenty of time.

Exciting New Scents!

Making Scents’ owner and soap maker is adding two new scents to her line. Butterfly, a beautiful mixture of sweet flowers, and Citrus Splash, a bold tropical paradise. I was lucky enough to preview the new scents recently and I must say I am excited to announce the addition of these scents to our product line.

The additional scents means I must redesign the order forms to reflect the addition, but the scents are well worth the time for redesign! I should have those updated in a week’s time, as well as more products added to the online store. The online portion of our business keeps coming together, piece by piece.

Announcing New Line

A new line of products will be available very soon! Not only will we be making Lotions, Hand Soaps, Foaming Soaps, Body Washes, and Bar Soaps, we will now be making old-fashioned bath bars. Scentsations for today’s retail buyer are wonderful products, but what about the person who wants a bath bar “like great-grandmother used to make”? Or even the gift shop that wants to sell historically-based soap or the museum store and reenactment village that would like to as well? We will be selling these old-fashioned soaps to both retail and wholesale buyers, so keep watch here for the official Product Unveiling! We will continue to make and sell our original designs with their all-natural handmade in 2000s feel, and we will be adding a new line with the look and feel of the 1800s. Let’s step into some scentsational history!

July 23rd Update

I spent an hour or so taking photographs of various Making Scents products for the online store last evening. Soon I will have several different sizes, shapes, and scents of the various body washes, hand soaps, and lotions loaded into the catalog. Progress seems to be going slow from the outsider’s prospective, but I have completed a lot of work in just a few days. Luckily I did not have to code the entire store from scratch – edit the php code and html, yes, but not the full store. Still, all of the settings and customization is time consuming – which is even before any products are listed! I hope to have the store logo designed tonight as well as most of the product images edited and uploaded. I’m getting closer to a grand opening date for the estore! Even being 25% done feels like a great accomplishment and motivates me to keep working on my mother’s, Tina, site. On with the scentsations!

July 21st Progress Report

As promised, I am slowly working on the website for Making Scents. I am happy to say that I found a very lovely layout for this News and Announcement page and the fact that I did not have to code a single line saves me a lot of time! I am currently working on making the shopping area for the site – a place to buy the handmade soaps, lotions, body washes, and other scentsational items – a convenient online store complete with product descriptions, shopping cart, and secure paypal checkout. Of course, for those who prefer to mail a prepaid check, we will still have the printable order forms available on the site. Keep your eyes here for the date for our e-store grand opening!

Starting a web-presence

Making Scents has had a website now since May 2009, however only the main page – consisting of a “Coming Soon” message and order forms for download – has been available. I am proud to say that the lonely page (http://makingscentsations.com) returns as the first search result in Google for “making scentsations”, and the fourth search result for “making scents brown county”. I hope, as soon as the full website goes public, that such searches as “homemade soaps and lotions” as well as “all natural soaps” searches also return Making Scents and our website.

Although the entire site is not yet available, it should be within a month’s time. Consumers will be able to view various products, learn about our all natural handmade soaps and the people behind the business, as well as buy these bath and body products. However, I am proud to say that News and Announcements will be readily viewed here at our Making Scents Blog starting today July 14th.

I’m looking forward to bringing a simple yet elegant website to the public very soon – and getting the name of Making Scents out there for handmade soaps, lotions, and other scentsational items buyers!
